  • Students who wish to enroll for the 38-hour  driver's education course  are required to be at least 14 years and 9 months of age and must be enrolled at minimum in the 8th grade. Students must meet the following criteria to be enrolled in the 38-hour driver's education course:

14 years, 9 months of age and must be enrolled at minimum in the 8th grade to 17 years old.

    * Students must have the Temporary Instructional Permit (TIP) card in order to take the course. For more information on the Temporary Instructional Permit (TIP) card, please visit: HERE.

  • Classroom Overview

During our four-day class lecture, we will provide your child with important information which may include, but is not limited to, the following: traffic laws and regulations, signs, traffic lights, and markings, correct and safe driving procedures, emergencies, driving hazards including weather conditions, alcohol, drug abuse, motorcycle safety, interstate driving, and driving offenses. We will provide worksheets to help with the understanding of each chapter along with a comprehensive final exam on the last day of class. The final exam requires a passing score of at least 80%. The success of each student’s understanding is important to us as it creates the foundation for being a safe driver. Driving is a privilege that should be taken very seriously so we encourage all students to ask as many questions as needed to fully understand any and all material. If your child requires any accommodations during the classroom or for the behind-the-wheel practice, please let one of our team members know.

  • Behind-the-Wheel Overview

Once a student has successfully completed his or her class along with successfully passing the final exam, the student will be contacted by one of our driving instructors to schedule the driving sessions. Each student will be trained using a certified, licensed and insured vehicle with a dual-brake system. Students are scheduled in (2) four-hour time slots on different days and may be picked up by the instructor at their home, school, or workplace within a 10-mile radius from our office. During the scheduling, date and time, along with the pickup/drop off location will be scheduled in accordance with a mutually convenient time for the instructor and parents/students.

The student must have his or her Temporary Instructional Permit (TIP) card that was issued by the Office of Motor Vehicles for each behind-the-wheel session. If a student arrives or is picked up and does not have the Temporary Instructional Permit (TIP) card on hand, the behind-the-wheel driving session will be canceled and the student/parent will be charged a $75.00 cancellation fee to cover the instructor's cost. This fee will be required before the next scheduled session can begin.

After completion of the behind-the-wheel portion, we will provide a sealed envelope that will be required by the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles for your child to obtain his or her learner's permit or driver's license. Inside this sealed envelope, there will be a yellow “certificate of completion” certificate. This certificate is your copy for record-keeping purposes. There are some insurance companies that may offer a discount to your child for completing a Louisiana driver’s education course and may request to see this certificate. Please keep in mind that if this certificate is misplaced or lost, our office will charge a $20.00 replacement fee which can only be requested online from our website by visiting our "Certificate Replacement" page.

Lastly, at the end of the behind-the-wheel practice, our driving instructor will provide an assessment packet detailing your child’s driving performance on various driving aspects. This assessment is used as an indicator of which areas of improvement may need special attention. Along with this assessment, you will be provided tips to help with your child’s driving. Remember, you are the most important influence on your child’s safe driving habits.

  • Driving Delay Policy

At Road Scholars Institute of Driving - Driving School, Driving Academy we strive to work as fast as possible to avoid an extended waiting period to complete the behind-the-wheel sessions. Our goal is to have each student completed as soon as possible, but no longer than four (4) months after completing the classroom portion as permitted by the State of Louisiana.

Delayed waiting times may occur in the event of the following:

    (1) Inclement weather. In the event that the weather does not permit, our driving instructors will notify the parent/student to reschedule the behind-the-wheel driving session to ensure the safety of our students and our instructors.
    (2) Summer/Holidays. The summer and holiday classes are considered the busy season. Please be advised that the summer and holiday courses may delay the behind-the-wheel session. However, each student is expected to complete the entire course within four (4) months from the last date of their enrolled classroom portion course.

Our driving instructors will contact the parent/student to schedule the behind-the-wheel driving sessions.

  • Missed/Canceled Driving Policy

If a student misses or cancels a scheduled driving session without notice (24-hour notice) a cash fee of $75.00 will be charged to cover the instructor's cost. This fee will be required before the next scheduled session can begin. Certificates will be held until all fees are paid. No certificate will be awarded until the course requirements are met.
