Stay up to Date with Louisiana’s Driver’s Education Changes

8/1/2020 – High School Enrollment Forms

Effective August 1, 2020, the high school student enrollment form is no longer required for minors applying for a Louisiana temporary instructional permit (TIP) card, learner’s permit, or driver’s license.


5/15/2020 – Know Before You Go: Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles

Beginning Monday, May 18, 2020, the Office of Motor Vehicles will begin providing limited office services at eleven locations across the state. The limited services include the issuance/renewal of driver licenses and/or identification cards, ordering a duplicate title, renewing vehicle registrations, and title transfers.

Customers are urged to continue utilizing the OMV website at www.expresslane.org for available online services such as driver license renewals, identification card renewals, official driving records, and duplicate registrations.

Customers are also encouraged to check their driver’s license status by visiting www.expresslane.org regarding flags, blocks, suspensions or disqualifications. If a customer has flags on their record, they must clear those flags prior to obtaining any OMV services.

These limited services will begin in a phased approach at the following locations:

Alexandria
Baton Rouge – Independence Blvd
Harvey
Houma
Lafayette
Lake Charles  
Livingston
Mandeville
Monroe
New Orleans – Veterans Hwy
Shreveport

Please be aware that Facial Coverings (customers must bring their own) and Social Distancing are strongly encouraged at all locations for all OMV customers. In addition, offices will be complying with the 25% occupancy capacity during Phase One of Louisiana Re-opening.

If customers are seeking reinstatements, these will only be provided via phone, mail or a Public Tag Agency.  Those customers seeking reinstatements must use one of the following options, with no exceptions.


3/22/2020 – Closures for Louisiana Driving Schools – Covid-19

Effective as of 3/23/202 at 5:00 pm, all non-essential businesses have been ordered to close until April 13, 2020 in order to combat the spread of Covid-19. With that being said, all driving schools across Louisiana will be suspending all services until April 13, 2020.

3/19/2020 – Classroom Closures for Louisiana Driving Schools – Covid-19

Effective as of 3/19/2020, all driving schools in the state of Louisiana shall close for in-class instruction until April 13, 2020.

In addition, the form documenting school attendance for minors shall not be required for the issuance or renewal of driver’s permit or license to operate a motor vehicle until May 10, 2020.

3/19/2020 – Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles Statewide Office Closures – Covid-19

Effective as of 3/19/2020, all Office of Motor Vehicles offices will close statewide until further notice. We will post an update on when these offices will reopen.


12/16/2019 – Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles System Outage – TIP Card Update

Effective 1/6/2020, the Temporary Instructional Permit issued by Louisiana’s Office of Motor Vehicles will be required now that the system has been restored. All driving schools throughout the state of Louisiana will discontinue using the old, paper Temporary Instructional Permit.


12/3/2019 – Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles System Outage – TIP Card Update

If you’re having issues with obtaining a TIP card, don’t stress. The driving schools will now take care of the TIP issuance when you attend the class until the state’s systems are fully functional. At this time, anyone who needs a TIP card will NOT need to visit the Office of Motor Vehicles, the TIP will be provided by the attending driving school until further notice from the Office of Motor Vehicles.


11/25/2019 – Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles System Outage – TIP Card Update

11/18/2019 – Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles System Outage – TIP Card Update

The computer system necessary to issue drivers’ licenses, vehicle registrations and other Office of Motor Vehicles’ services went down on 11/18/2019 because of a ransomware attack on the entire state computer system. The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles’ website is back up and running but it is not accepting any transactions at this time. Currently, all offices statewide are closed with the expectation to reopen on Monday 11/25/2019.
